ENERGY EFFICIENCY CERTIFICATION

In order to promote the energy efficiency certification of buildings, in Europe and some Latin American countries, the energy certification and qualification procedure is established. This building energy performance certificate is aimed at both new and second-hand buildings, so that the potential buyer or tenant has objective information on the energy consumption of the building in the form of an energy performance certificate.

The energy efficiency certification of new buildings and homes is usually governed by the application of a simplified methodology or by the application of software to perform the energy efficiency certification.

What is the energy performance certificate of a building?

The building energy performance certificate is the legal document necessary to comply with current regulations on energy efficiency of buildings and housing. The energy certification of the building verifies the energy qualification of the building and is reflected through the energy label of the building or dwelling. The energy certification must be done, in new building, on the project. In this way, the energy certification project must be maintained throughout the construction phase and subsequently verify whether the energy certification project coincides with the energy certification of the completed building.

What is the energy label of the building?

The energy label of a building is the part of the energy performance certificate of the building that reflects the energy rating of the building and is part of the building documentation. It includes an energy rating classified according to letters from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient) and colours, according to the energy efficiency of the building.
